The City of North Plains Economic Development Commission will work to identify, support and facilitate diverse opportunities to enhance existing business conditions and attract new and complementary businesses to the area, while preserving the small town character of North Plains.
Members of the Commission serve as volunteers and are uncompensated for their service. The position is a four-year term (unless filling a vacancy mid-term). An Economic Development Committee was originally formed by City Council in 2018 (
Resolution No. 1999) to foster proactive economic development in North Plains and encourage increases in both the local tax base as well as opportunities for local employment in the City of North Plains. In 2023, City Council approved changing the committee to a commission and expanding the number of members from five to seven members. This Commission develops recommendations for the City Council regarding the implementation of the 2035 North Plains Vision to guide business growth and development in the community, the Housing Needs Analysis, and Economic Opportunity Analysis. The Economic Development Committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Jessie Mays Community Center.
