The Planning Department is responsible for all aspects concerning future planning for the City and thus coordinates with all City Departments towards this goal.  The Department also works with other regional planning organizations and updates the Comprehensive Plan.

The Planning Department provides information and recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council on issues that would involve zoning changes and residential, commercial, and industrial development in the City.

The Planning Department also issues permits for various construction and improvement projects.
