1. Call to Order

3. Roll Call: Craig Edwards, Janet Ford, Cindi Hirst, Cynthia Peterson. George absent.

4. Appearance of Interested Citizens: Carolyn Leavitt

5. Board Member Interviews: All board members unanimously agreed to invite Carolyn Leavitt to join the library board. Cindi motioned, Janet seconded that motion. It will be brought to recommend the next City Council meeting for council's approval.

6. Approval of Dec. 17 meeting minutes: approved with one spelling correction. Cindi motioned, Craig seconded.

7. Library Director Report:

  • Terri Palmer, the new Library Volunteer Coordinator, began working Jan. 21, 2004. Cynthia will introduce her to City Council on February 2.
  • We now have 213 patrons in the circulation database. Have circulated over 5,000 items and have over 4,000 items in the collection.

    8. Volunteer Coordinator Update: The hiring process is complete. Thank you to Craig Edwards and Diane VanGrunsven for volunteering to help with the hiring panet.

    9. Circulation Desk Update: The NP Chamber of Commerce is generously donating the money for the wall cabinet. The board has graciously accepted. Cindi motioned, Janet seconded.

    10. Grant Opportunities Update:

  • Chet Wolter will be donating another computer in the near future. This has been a tremendous help to our Internet users. The board does not need to pursue a technology grant at this time, because of Chet's generosity.
  • The Oregon Community Foundation poses a great opportunity for the board to solicit funds for the Summer Reading Program, another program or to complete the Circulation Desk construction.

    11. Announcement:

  • The Volunteer Recognition annual party will be February 26 at 7pm in the Community Hall. It will be a "Wine & Cheese" party and the library will be providing dessert... birthday cake in celebration of our 1 year anniversary.
  • Janet gave each board member a copy of her draft of the goals for the library. Thank you, Janet!
  • Cindi asked if the library would like to do community Outreach collections. In particular to 5th Avenue Plaza. Cynthia said "yes." The details will be worked out between Cindi and Cynthia.
