Cameron Martinez

Hello North Plains, my name is Cameron Martinez (Cotton). I started my journey in North Plains and my extended and immediate family reside here currently. North Plains has always been home for me. After living in Hillsboro for several years, I returned to North Plains and feel I have a unique opportunity to continue to grow with this city, handle responsibility and build positive relationships within our community. I will take great pride in doing this. After spending my childhood on Pacific Street, I graduated with honors from Glencoe HS and then continued education with a degree in Community Health Ed. at PSU. From Portland State, I pursued my dream of being a Registered Nurse, achieving a second degree from University of Portland. I am currently working as a District Nurse (RN) in the Hillsboro School District. I’m driven, not to do great things for myself, but to proudly serve others and the city I love.....North Plains.

Councilor Martinez was re-elected for a second term in November, 2020 and her current term expires December 31, 2024. Her email is cameron.martinez@northplains.org.

Q. Why do you serve on City Council?

A. Giving back to my community has always been important to me. It is also important to me that everyone has a voice in our community. I want to help represent that voice, especially for those who may be considered part of a vulnerable population. Serving on City Council is a great way to improve and make a positive difference in community member’s lives. I hope to ensure that families throughout our community are surrounded with the very best environment.

Q. What city accomplishment are you most proud of helping the City achieve during your time on City Council?

A. I am very passionate about our parks and recreation in town and the need to continually grow them. I am most recently excited about our long awaited Veteran’s Park! As a daughter of a veteran, it was very important to me that this park was created. It is another place for our community to come together and represents all branches of the military; past, present, and future. Thank you to all our Vets!

Q. What opportunity or challenge in the community are you most passionate about and why?

A. Our continued growth is an opportunity for this community to come together, new and old. I want this town to stay the small town feel while also allowing day to day growth and enrichment in people’s lives. We can all make this a great place to live if we all come together.

Q. What would you say to a resident who asks you, "What is the best way to get involved in North Plains?"

A. Whether it’s volunteering, being part of a committee or board, or taking part in the town’s events, there is opportunity for everyone to get involved. Just ask or show up to an event and we will guide you in the right direction.

Q. Can you share a fun fact about you?

A. My children are 4th generation North Plainians living here in town. My grandparents came to North Plains as migrant workers and still reside in town to this day.
