Carol Aldrich

carol_aldrich_croppedHow long have you worked here?
I’ve worked at the library for over 12 years.  I was hired in April 2010. Since that time, I’ve had the fun opportunity to transition into many roles, serving in Youth Services doing Storytimes and programs, helping facilitate the start of our Teen Council and later wearing the Adult Programming hat.

What do you do in your role for the City?
It’s my absolute joy and honor to be the library’s Volunteer Coordinator! It’s truly a great job working with an incredibly talented, creative, hardworking, and amazing team of library volunteers and staff!  When the pandemic hit, I also was part of our Outreach Team which created Library Joy, a daily e-newsletter, as well as working with our volunteer team to create and assemble Adult Adventure Packs.

What do you like best about your job?
It’s wonderful to be part of the teamwork and leadership that cares to make a difference in our community.  I love working in an organization that encourages patrons, volunteers, and staff to learn, grow, create, and be inspired!  I’ve always liked helping folks and I have that opportunity many times each day to do just that.  Whether it is helping someone find a new author or good read, connecting them with our outstanding online resources, programs, and services, or teaching new skills, it’s all very rewarding.

What is your typical workday like?
Even though my activities vary each day, most days start before the library opens with communications, Excel scheduling and working on The Weekly Connection, our volunteer newsletter. Other work during the day may include planning for volunteer appreciation events, National Volunteer Leaders Meeting, Outreach planning, overseeing assembly projects and delivery to Meals on Wheels and the Sr. Plaza, interviewing, and training new volunteers and helping at the Circulation Desk.

I serve because...
I love people and libraries!  I’m thankful that we can offer such a beautiful space for the community to gather and connect.  It’s incredible that we can offer free access to information and resources, plus strong support for literacy and education.

What I love about North Plains is...
The spirit of community and service.  We have great community leaders, wonderful, engaged residents and organizations and a rich history.  I’m grateful to be a part of the city team!

What do you like to do when you're not at work?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, travel adventures, being outdoors, running, hiking, bicycling, kayaking, time in the garden, cooking and reading.
