Meet North Plains Police Deputy Steven Schutz

Deputy Schutz - Copy - CopyOur City employees enjoy working for the North Plains community. In this series, we introduce either an individual or a group of City employees to you each month so you can get to know us and what we do. See all of the Employee Connections so far here.

How long have you worked here?

I was originally hired by the city in 2017 as a full-time police officer. Since North Plains partnered with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for police services in 2019, I’ve moved back and forth between the city of North Plains and various districts within Washington County.

What do you do in your role for the City?

In my role as a police officer for the City of North Plains, it’s my job to promote community safety, conserve the peace, and serve the community in any way I can. Sometimes that’s as simple as giving a sticker to a child, and sometimes it’s about holding people accountable.

What do you like best about your job?
The best part of my job is being able to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. Due to the nature of the job, I usually interact with people on one of the worst days of their lives. It’s being able to make a difference in those moments that keeps me going.

What is your typical workday like?

Something I enjoy about this job is that there are no typical days. You never know what call is going to come out next or what you may find when patrolling.

I serve because...

I am able to make real, meaningful differences in the lives of those I serve. It’s as simple as that!

What I love about North Plains is...

The community! I love how close knit it is and how everyone is very welcoming.

What do you like to do when you're not at work?

When I’m not at work, I like to participate in local motorsport events and spend as much time as I can outdoors.
