mayor_vetpark - CopyVeterans Memorial Park Wins 2021 Small Project Engineering AwardThe City of North Plains Veterans Memorial Park was recently named the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Oregon 2021 Engineering Excellence Small Project Award.

The annual ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement and value. Read the award details and more about the creation of the park in the ACEC 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards publication here (pg 16).

“The North Plains Veteran’s Memorial Park celebrates and honors our nation’s heroes and we are thankful for the many partnerships that helped us realize this dream for our community,” said City Manager Andy Varner. “This special park was made possible with major support from Kittelson & Associates, 3J Consulting, Otak, Subcom Excavation, many local veterans, and others.”

This is the second award for this award-winning park. In fall 2021, North Plains Veterans Memorial Park was named the Oregon American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Project of the Year for structures less than $5 million.

After years of planning, the Veterans Memorial Park officially opened on November 11, 2020. The park celebrates our nation’s heroes, as well as offers a place to relax and reflect. This 11,000 square foot park features a 100-foot flagpole with a 50x30 foot flag as the centerpiece, commemorative plaques honoring our Veterans and POW’s for their service and sacrifice, benches, the town's first EV charging stations, an American Legion flag disposal box, bike rack and repair station, and more. The design also incorporates more than 1,500 bricks, and the opportunity for residents and friends of North Plains to make their contribution to the project by “Buying a Brick.” Read more about the park at www.northplains.org.
