Water Reservoir

water_resvThe North Plains Reservoir and Pump Station No. 2 project is now complete and the new 2 million gallon above-ground water storage tank and pump station are now in action serving North Plains water needs well into the future.

The new water reservoir and pump station, located on NW West Union Road, about ½ mile east of the intersection with NW Glencoe Road, increase drinking water storage in town, help bring water service to new homes and businesses, and provide more adequate water flow for fire emergencies. Since both structures are deemed “critical infrastructure,” they are supported by 80’ underground concrete columns that are in place to help provide additional stability during a large seismic event. This site will also house a future Public Works facility and Emergency Operations Center.

Water flows to both the new reservoir and the existing 1 million gallon reservoir on Commercial Street through a 3-mile pipeline that the City constructed in 2005 originating from the Joint Water Commission (JWC) transmission main in Hillsboro. All three connection points in the water system are controlled and connected via a supervisory control system, allowing the City to balance the demand and supply needs of the community more efficiently. North Plains purchases its water from the JWC which is the primary drinking water supplier in Washington County.
