Severe Weather

FloodingGordon Road, between Commercial Street and Wascoe Street, often floods during heavy rainfall, but it is a Washington County road. It is strongly advised to contact Washington County LUT through their Request Road Service online. You may also call LUT at (503) 846-7623 during business hours or (503) 629-0111 after normal business hours.

Often times, North Plains Public Works crew will initiate the road closure process and contact Washington County LUT to complete the process.
SandbagsNorth Plains has a self-service sandbag fill site located on the corner of Commercial Street and 321st Ave (at the Downtown Water Reservoir). Please notify Publics Works at publicworks@northplains.org or (503) 647-5555 if sandbags supplies are low or gone.
Winter Weather and Snow PlowingGlencoe/Shadybrook, West Union, and Gordon are three of the major routes into North Plains that are treated and plowed by Washington County LUT and according to their winter weather policies. North Plains Public Works will prioritize treating and plowing the major collector streets in town when accumulations are expected to be over 1.5"-2" depending on conditions and expected forecast.

Currently (Winter/Spring 2024), we have two pickup sized dump trucks with rubber bladed plows that can spread sand/gravel as conditions warrant.  We also have a street broom with a steel blade that can supplement the truck plows. We are working towards having a functional de-icing (Magnesium Chloride) system ready before next Winter 2025.
