The City of North Plains has a partnership with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement services in North Plains. This partnership creates and maintains a sustainable, cost-effective, and high-quality police service that safeguards the livability and safety of our community.

Meet our teamNorth_Plains_Chief_Jones_Jan2024North Plains Police Chief Nick Jones became Chief in January 2024 and brings over a decade of dedicated service to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Serving as the Team Leader and Supervisor for the Crisis Negotiation Unit, Jones has demonstrated his ability to handle critical situations with expertise. He was part of the original sheriff’s office team that started providing law enforcement services to North Plains in 2019. Chief Jones is honored to serve North Plains and looks forward to working together with staff and the community to uphold a strong commitment to community policing and enhance the safety and well-being of our neighborhoods.

yogi_barters_cropDeputy Juergen “Yogi” Barters started in North Plains in September 2022. Yogi has 17 years of law enforcement experience and has worked as a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy for the past seven years. He likes the friendly, down-to-earth North Plains community and wishes for people to come and see him for all law concerns, questions, or issues. 

Deputy Steven Schutz originally started with the North Plains Police Department in 2017.  After a brief hiatus in deputy_schutz_w_carthe private sector and then as a Washington County Sheriff's Deputy, he re-joined the North Plains team in March, 2023.
