February 13, 2010, SOLV Event CANCELED

Due to site conditions, this event has been cancelled.  A new site on city property appears to be better located and events are being planned for later this spring and in the fall.

Plant trees and help restore the McKay Creek watershed in North Plains at SOLV's Tem Up For Watershed Health site on February 13, 2010.  Plantings start at 9:00 a.m. and end by 12:00 p.m..  SOLV provides tools and gloves.

By planting native trees and shrubs, volunteers will be lowering stream temperatures and creating an ecosystem that will filter polluted stormwater runoff, improve water quality, provide better habitat for wildlife, and be more resilient to climate change.

Over the years, McKay Creek has been overrun with blackberry and reed canary grass degrading the overall health of the watershed.  As part of this opportunity, volunteers will work to restore a functioning ash wetland on site by planting natives and wetland vegetation, which will improve water quality and decrease erosiion.  Project partners include the City of North Plains, Clean Water Services and Summit Foods.

For more infromation and to register to visit the Team Up For Watershed Health Web Site, http://www.solv.org/programs/teamup_watershed_health.asp.  Event information is found at the very bottom of the page.  You can also contact Brett Lyon at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call (503) 844-9571, Extension 332.

Put on your boots, grab a shovel and come dig in!  We hope to see you out in your watershed!
